One With The Gun® - Vehicle Ambush Engagements is a 16-hour live-fire tactical course designed to prepare law enforcement officers to survive, fight, and prevail during deadly force encounters in and around vehicles. This program focuses on one of the most dangerous and under-trained realities in policing: the sudden vehicle-centered ambush. Officers may be attacked while seated, trapped by the geometry of the car, forced to shoot from confined positions, required to exit under pressure, or pushed to fight from around the vehicle using only what the structure can realistically provide.
This course teaches officers how to think, move, communicate, and engage in one of the most compressed tactical environments they may ever face. Students will work through in-car shooting problems, two-officer ambush response, exiting to positions of advantage, use of vehicle pillars and major structural areas, and fighting from outside the vehicle with both pistol and rifle. The goal is to produce officers who understand what the vehicle can and cannot do for them, how to preserve partner safety, and how to respond with greater survivability, discipline, and tactical clarity when violence erupts around the car.
Course Highlights:
In-Car Shooting Fundamentals
Learn how to safely and effectively engage from inside the vehicle while managing confined space, restricted sight lines, and compressed body position.
Vehicle Geometry and Structural Reality
Understand the tactical strengths and weaknesses of the vehicle, including the role of pillars, wheel areas, door lines, and engine-block-adjacent positions.
Two-Officer Ambush Response
Train as a two-man team to respond to a surprise attack initiated while both officers are still seated in the car.
Exiting Under Threat
Develop the ability to leave the vehicle more safely and efficiently when staying inside is no longer tactically sound.
Fighting Around the Vehicle
Learn how to use the vehicle from the outside as a tactical reference point for angles, cover, concealment, and movement.
Pistol and Rifle Vehicle Applications
Apply both weapons systems in and around the car while preserving safe gun handling and shot accountability.
Partner Communication and Team Survival
Work through coordinated movement, role clarity, and partner-preservation principles during evolving vehicle-based gunfights.
Vehicle Stops and Occupant Management
Connect vehicle tactics back to law enforcement reality by addressing occupant rights, communication, officer authority, and force decision-making around cars.
