FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR COURSE
The One With The Gun® - Firearms Instructor Course is a 32-hour foundational certification program designed to certify police officers to teach handgun shooting.
This is where the instructor journey begins.
Over four days, students are introduced to the core skills, responsibilities, and instructional methods required to safely and effectively teach firearms in a law enforcement environment. The course focuses on building new instructors who understand handgun fundamentals, range safety, lesson delivery, shooter diagnostics, coaching methods, and performance-based firearms training.
Students will be challenged to move beyond being capable shooters and begin thinking, speaking, coaching, and leading like instructors. This course gives officers the foundation they need to begin a long career in firearms instruction.
The purpose of this course is to create safe, competent, and confident firearms instructors who can teach the fundamentals of handgun shooting and begin developing officers at the agency level.
This course establishes the foundation every instructor needs before moving into advanced instructor development, red-dot instruction, low-light instruction, rifle instruction, or specialty firearms programs.
Course Highlights:
Foundational Firearms Instructor Certification
This course certifies law enforcement officers to begin teaching handgun shooting within their agency. It is built as the starting point for a professional firearms instructor career.
Instructor Mindset Development
Students learn the difference between being a good shooter and being a good instructor. The course develops the ability to lead, coach, communicate, and set expectations on the range.
Teaching Handgun Fundamentals
Instructor candidates learn how to teach grip, stance, sight management, trigger control, recoil management, presentation, follow-through, and accuracy standards in a way students can understand and apply.
Range Safety and Line Management
Students are trained to manage a firing line safely, control movement, issue clear commands, identify unsafe behavior, and maintain accountability during live-fire training.
Shooter Diagnostics and Error Correction
The course teaches instructor candidates how to identify common shooter deficiencies and apply corrective coaching in real time. Students will learn to diagnose problems, not just observe missed shots.
Demonstration-Based Instruction
Instructor candidates will learn how to properly demonstrate skills, explain the purpose behind drills, and model the performance standard expected from their students.
Live-Fire Coaching Exercises
Students will coach other shooters during live-fire evolutions while being evaluated on safety, communication, correction, and instructional presence.
Lesson Plan Development
Students will be introduced to the structure of effective firearms lesson plans, including learning objectives, safety considerations, drill design, performance standards, and evaluation methods.
Performance Evaluation
Instructor candidates will be evaluated on their ability to shoot, teach, communicate, and manage the range. This ensures graduates leave with both technical skill and instructional competence.
Building the Foundation for Future Instructor Development
This course gives officers the baseline certification and framework needed before moving into advanced firearms instructor development, red-dot instructor training, rifle instruction, low-light instruction, or specialty firearms programs.
